Musical Guest of Honor: The Black Crystals

MUSIC GUEST OF HONOR:  THE BLACK CRYSTALS

The Black Crystals, Who are they exactly? A group of talented musicians some have said. Some say they just appeared out of no where, like wandering pirates looking for that great treasure. Their journey all began in late 2005, when the idea to form an Anime/Video Game tribute band had popped into Ryp and Captain’s heads. With guitar in hand, and drums keeping the beat going. They needed another element to make this great fusion explode, They needed Alie. As their journey continued, they picked up a new member, Nico. The legendary keytar demon. With a full arsenal of awesomely great music The Black Crystals were armed and ready to rock.

The Black Crystals will be performing at Anime Conji’s Music Festival on Saturday!

Below is our line up of acts that will playing at the Anime Conji Music Festival

Cosplayer, Singer, and AX Idol Winner

Stephanie Yanez

The beautiful and talented AX Idol Winner has quite the astounding career. Since her debut at Anime Expo 2005, she has been seen across the country, performing at many different Japanese Events, Anime Conventions, and Music Venues. She has performed out in Japan numerous times. Her first live performance was in Harajuku in the spring of 07! And that following year in Nov 08 she was one of the first Americans to perform on an Akihabaran stage.

Ms. Yanez has released her double EP titled “SIDES”, which has 10 songs written in both Japanese and English inspired by Anime, Japan, Love, and Life! The official CD “SIDES” showcases two different styles of music that has made Ms. Yanez who she is today! Stephanie feels that everyone has two different sides, sometimes three or four. Example: the mother, the woman, the wife, the teacher, etc. Each one of us has many different roles that we have to live up to. And some people may never see a certain side that you may have. The Offical CD “SIDES” is available on STEPHANIEYANEZ.COM. And also on iTUNES, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc.

This was a portion of the many things this talented young singer has done! Check out her website for more information.

She plays a monthly coffeehouse gig in San Diego at Lestats West, and the occasional California science fiction convention.

Steam Powered Giraffe

From www.steampoweredgiraffe.com:

So what is a Steam Powered Giraffe anyway?

The short answer: A Musical Pantomime Troupe featuring robot imitation with song.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Mimes can’t talk!” You’re in for a surprise. Imagine you’re visiting the World’s Fair circa 1939. You are surrounded by art deco styled buildings, and everything is splashed with retro-metropolistic themes. A wondrous exhibition of odd technologies for a brighter future! Now imagine you’re entering a building in the fair, behind a number of eager fairgoers you hear the sound of Vaudevillian tunes resonating through the small theater. And as you are guided inside you finally catch a glimpse at the source of the sounds. Four metallic people singing. Hydraulics blast and motors hum as the robotic quadruplet begin to snap into automated movement, their metal maws barking songs, jokes, and outdated pop-culture references.

These are the robots of Steam Powered Giraffe. Four of them in total, each with their own quirky look and personality.

Behind the brass and sass are four of San Diego’s local up and coming Pantomime artists, trained in the art by the mime of Seaport Village fame, Kazoo (aka Jerry Hager). This act combines the amazing visual of ROBOT PANTOMIME with improvised comedic dialogue, music, and song. That’s right! Mimes no longer need be silent!  They are  putting on a Special Performance as the  Masquerade Half-time Show.
