Judgment Criteria
- Detail – 40 points: This is the actual skill demonstrated on the kit, including seam line correction, brush strokes, damaged decals, filling in areas that are not suppose to be hollow, etc.
- Modification/Theme – 40 points: This is judgment on how well modifications work with a model, if it increases movement for posing, damage look etc. Is it more than just a “Out of box” kit? Includes judgment based on the kits age (Manufacturer year if possible), difficulty of the kit (i.e. Master Grade, Perfect Grade etc.), the use and effectiveness of modifications and add on parts.
- Presentation – 20 points: is it just standing there waiting to get picked out of a series of other mobile suits? What did you do to make this kit stand out? This includes how the model looks from a distance as well as up close? Is the kit comedic or menacing?
Grading Rubric
All kits will be graded together on the following rubric in a 100 point scale. (Max 120 Points with Bonus)
Detail (40):
(30) Start with 30 points automatically. You will lose points if:
-3 points for lack of Seam Line Correction
-3 Points for cracks in parts/paint
-3 Points for Paint Pooling
-3 Points non-uniform paint tones/shading
-3 Points for not filling in panel lines
(10) For Dioramas/Mecha Category:
4 Points for gap filling (Behind Shields/Skirts/In between parts/etc.)
4 Points for Decal Use
2 Points for Making Decals more authentic (As if they were painted on not just applied to the model)
(10) For Figures:
4 Points for gap filling (Behind Shields/Skirts/In between parts/etc.)
3 Points for Evidence of Color Variation (Skin, Hair, etc)
3 Points for Authentic look of Clothing, armor, weapons, etc.
Modification/Theme (40):
(25) Theme – Includes:
Color Modifications
Examples: Like a Blue Angel Theme, Macros Theme Colors, Anime Accuracy.
(15) Modification – +3 Points per Modification:
Includes but not limited to:
Extra Weapons
Scribing Panel Lines
Articulation Mods
Lighting
Presentation (20):
10 Points for Non stock pose (Mecha/Diorama)
10 Points for Non-stock/painted stand (Figures)
Bonus:
10-20 At Judges Discretion, things not mentioned above that go above and beyond the art of Model building. (Subjective)
Schedule
Model Entries will be accepted at the Art Show inside the Dealers Hall until close on March 17 Saturday 6:00PM.
Judgment will be made on March 18 Sunday 11:00AM. Contestants will be free to pick up their models after 11:00AM
