Well, what I did for my overhead display consists of some metal welding skills, so you will need to find a big strong man (or a chiseled and muscle woman O.o) who knows how to weld for you in order to make your display braces. I got a couple of super heavy duty metal pipes that are about 1 foot long and 2 inches in diameter and had them welded to a couple of heavy duty metal table clamps that I got from home depot. (pictured below). Then I just built a 2 inch pipe PVC frame to hold the sign itself. I even made fabric coveres to cover all the pvc pipes as well as the table braces for the pipes. Since you just attach the metal pipes to the clamps via welding, you can just slide the PVC pipe frame right into the braces and clamp it to your table. This is the most durable overhead sign that I have built, and it barely moves.
PS: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THICK PVC PIPES LIKE I DID! If you are only displaying paper artwork on the overhang, then I suggest sticking with 1 inch pipe so that you do not have a lot ov overhead weight hanging off of your table. I only used heavier duty pvc pipe because my display sign is canvas, and I have weighted stuff on my table to give counterweight for the banner. Ill try to take pics before the con if I can. ^_^
